Bill Bourne
is a unique creator of music. Critics have called him "a national treasure", "an iconoclast" and "a master folk musician". He is the founder of Bourne & MacLeod and a Juno award winning Canadian singer - songwriter. The great grandson of Icelands' Poet Laureate, Stefan G. Stefansson, he grew up in rural Alberta listening to his parents play old time music.
His first recognition came in the 1980s when he did a three year stint with Scotland's Tannahill Weavers. The confinement of their
traditional music prompted him to move on to his own material, hence the creation of Bourne & MacLeod and the release of the ground breaking LP "Dance & Celebrate". A second
Bourne & MacLeod album, "Moonlight Dancers", followed, but the compromises of the pop music industry became unacceptable to the writer. He broke free of his recording contract and
returned to what he describes as "the fertile ground of musical autonomy".
His collaboration with Edmonton violinist/fiddler Shannon Johnson, produced two critically acclaimed CDs, "Dear Madonna" &
the 1997 Juno nominated "Victory Train".
brouhaha records has released two
Bill Bourne CDs - a solo "best of" project - 'Farmer, Philanthropist & Musician', and the collaborative traditional country blues project, 'Bourne, Schuld & Stamer -'No Special Rider'. A
fiercely independent musician, Bill Bourne has and continues to create his own niche in the overloaded musical world.
