What can you say about music? It comes from experience in the world, and contributes to our experience in the world. This recording came about naturally and gradually after a conversation with Andreas, in which he described to me the cooperative nature of the company, brouhaha records group, and his efforts to record and produce music affordably and honestly. It felt right, so we soon agreed to make an album. I had the songs, and went in to the studio the first time with Paul Bergman, a great friend with whom I had played in Whitehorse,(at the Kopper King Tavern on the Alaska Highway) many years ago, when I was just beginning in the business. Anyway, Paul and I recorded five or six songs that day, with just the acoustic bass and acoustic guitar. I knew after that first day of recording that this was going to be a good thing. I went in by myself one more time, playing some more songs by myself. We chose about five songs to record with the band and that session took place on one day, with Chris "The Wrist" Nordquist on the drums and Andreas playing electric guitar. There was minimal rehearsal and maximum fun as we just played the songs. The feel was great, and I can't say enough how much I appreciated how relaxed and professional everyone was.

The vibe at Magic Lab was totally conducive to good music, and I think we came up with some great grooves. And thanks to Daryl Hok, our engineer, we got them on tape! There were overdub sessions with Darryl Havers, Tim Porter, Jesse Zubot, and Andreas did a ton of work on his own. Hat's off to all of the musicians!
Hopefully the songs speak for themselves, and to some common experiences between us. They are about, well who knows, really? The meaning is with the listener. It is surprising sometimes what wonderful gifts songs can be. What I have noticed about music and performing is that without the shared experience of performer/audience there is no meaning at all. Unfortunately there seems to be less and less live music available to people in our overly commercialized world, and too much of it is married to the business of selling and advertising. With 'Keep It Simple' we hope we are sharing freely our love for this gift. We believe in this music, and hope it gives you something that you haven't had already. Hope to see you soon.
