``Five Bucks A Lick" is the first release by Western Swing artist Bill Tonsaker, affectionately
nicknamed the "King of Swing" by his musical cohorts. Produced by award-winning guitarist and producer Andreas Schuld, the album features an impressive all-star cast, including Ex-Bellamy
Brothers Tony Michaels and 1999 Juno-nominee Jesse Zubot on fiddle, New York session ace Ron Thaler (Al Di Meola) and Chris "The Wrist" Nordquist (Colin
James, Schuld & Stamer) on drums, as well as bassists Brian Newcombe (Oleta Adams, Boz Scaggs, Jim Brickman) and Gord Maxwell (Ian Tyson). Steel guitar chores are handled by
Alberta's Jeff Bradshaw and Brian Nicholl.
Bill Tonsaker's rich vocals shine throughout the album which includes classic selections such as
Bob Wills' "I Wonder If You Feel The Way I Do", "Blues for Dixie", Johnny Mercer's "I'm An Old Cowhand", as well as a burning version of the
instrumental work-out "Sugarfoot Rag".
Although the bulk of the material was already recorded in 1995 it was not until 1999 that the album reached
completion due to unforeseen circumstances affecting some core project members
