The brouhaha all-star blues revue featuring
Kenny Wayne - Andreas Schuld - Hans Stamer - Chris Nordquist - Brian Newcombe
will be performing at the Lethbridge Blues Festival on August 21 and at the 1st International Blues Festival in Edmonton, Alberta on August 22.
Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne has been setting audiences on fire ever since his debut album "Alive & Loose" was released in 1996. The album, recorded live in an intimate studio setting and produced by Andreas Schuld, quickly called attention to this new West Coast piano sensation. The CD was nominated for a Best Blues Juno in 1997 and won many other blues awards across Canada. His second album, "Blues Boss Boogie", on Real Blues Records, also garnered a Juno nomination in 1999 and was voted Best Canadian Blues CD by Real Blues Magazine. His brilliant piano work has been much praised in the international blues scene, resulting in performances at festivals across North America and Europe. Kenny also guests on Joe Louis Walker's latest release.
Hans Stamer has to be ranked among the greatest blues and R&B vocalists anywhere...He was the frontmant for the legendary R&B Allstars for over 15 years, and has performed with James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, and many, many others. His voice has been heard on jingles worldwide. Before his re-discovery in 1997 due to the success of "No Special Rider", the last recorded output by this great master was only available on two critically acclaimed albums for RCA with the Hans Stamer Band in the 1970's. His new album with co-hort Andreas Schuld, "You Got The Bread...We Got The Jam!" also features British legend Long John Baldry and Chris Nordquist.
1999 BCCMA "Guitarist of the year" Andreas Schuld's guitar stylings and production skills have been heard on many recent Juno nominated recordings, among them "No Special Rider" with duo partner Hans Stamer, and also guesting Bill Bourne, as well as "Alive & Loose" by Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne. One of the most recorded guitarists on the West Coast, he can also be heard on CDs by Susan Crowe, Raffi, Rachel Matkin as well as the TV series "Nightman". He has played the blues with George "Harmonica" Smith, Mighty Joe Young, Eddie Shaw, Robben Ford, Philip Walker, Willie Dixon, and many others too numerous to mention.
Chris Nordquist is considered by many of his peers to be one of the greatest drummers ever in the genre. Affectionately nicknamed "The Wrist" many years ago by his admirers, he has performed with countless blues legends, including Big Mama Thornton, Jay McShann, Robert Lockwood Jr., and numerous others. He was featured on the 97 Juno winning album "National Steel" by Colin James and Colin Linden, as well as on recent releases by Schuld & Stamer, Kenny Wayne, and Big Dave McLean.
Brian Newcombe has long been one of Vancouver's top session bassists. His rock-solid bottom and earthy feel have been heard in recent performances with such artists such as Boz Scaggs, Peabo Bryson, Philip Bailey, and Oleta Adams, as well as on Jim Brickman's current chart-climber "Destiny", and Kenny Wayne's "Alive & Loose".
