INDUSTRY DAY - Hamilton Film Festival


Industry Day is the business development portion of the Hamilton Film Festival, Canadian Film Market and the Creative Exchange. This is where people who are emerging and established in the film / tv world meet-up to network, learn trends, how-to's and gain insight into different aspects of this multi-faceted industry.  

To attend these events you must meet one of the following:

1) A Filmmaker with a film screening at this year's festival (your All-Access pass)

2) A Canadian Film Market participant at this year's market (Your All-Access Pass)

3) Simply attend the Creative Exchange in the morning (You will get a wrist band to stay for the day) 

4) Purchase a General Admission ticket 


10am - Creative Exchange
Presented by the City of Hamilton, this creative meet-up happens quarterly and focuses on the fashion, music and film industry in the city. All creatives are welcome to attend and it is a great way to get to know some of the talent and businesses that operate in the arts sector. Attending this free event gets you a complimentary wristband to attend the rest of the days events. 

12 Noon - Guest Speaker
Jason MacDonald (Actor / Writer / Director) 

Jason MacDonald made his professional acting debut in 1998 on the soap opera Another World and appeared on every New York based soap including As The World Turns, All My Children, The Guiding Lightand as Principal Fletcher on One Life To Live. 
Jason has worked extensively as an actor in New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta for over twenty-five years. Feature film credits include The Accountant, Life As We Know It, The Family That Preys, Beacon Point, The Joneses and the upcoming biopic The Luis Palau Story.  Television credits include:  Bull, Good Behavior, The Inspectors, Kevin Probably Saves the World, Outcast, Born Again Virgin, Necessary Roughness, Drop Dead Diva, House of Payne, Single Ladies, Magic City, Witches of East End, Criminal Behavior, the upcoming comedy Miracle Workersand as Grayson Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries.
As a writer/director Jason’s short film ‘Mr. Goody’ won the top prize at the Prague Independent Film Festival as well as a Special Jury Award at Barcelona and Best Director award at Georgia Shorts Film Festival this year.  His company Drama Inc. Films currently has five films in various stages of development. (Mr. Goody screens Friday November 9th, 7pm in the Comedy Shorts program at the Staircase Theatre)

1pm - Pitching a Genre Project
Vortex Pictures presents  The Genre Picth. Get an understanding of what it takes to put together a great pitch.  

2pm - Distribution
Distribution is something that many filmmakers are seeking but to really know what distribution looks like in 2018, and what you should have prepared before approaching a distributor, will be discussed. 

3pm - Financing
As a follow-up to distribution, the #1 question filmmakers ask is "where can I get funding?" The panel will be rounded out with someone who has completed a successful crowd-funded campaign, an independent financier and a funding body. 

4pm - Music for Film - Pitching for Sync & Licensing 
Presented by Music Ontario. Music placements in film, TV, ads, video games and other digital content are universally sought after by artists and industry alike. Sync and licensing mean that your music is working for you behind the scenes and generating royalties. So how can you get your catalogue heard by the right people? What are the best practices and approaches, and dos and don’ts to get there? Prep your questions for our panel of experts!

The 14th annual Hamilton Film Festival is Hamilton's largest and longest running film festivals with roots that go back 20 years! ​ We have screened over 1000 films, 700 of them Canadian Films! Filmmakers, travel to our event, from all over the world. We connect filmmakers and give them another voice. ​We celebrate the art of movie making from concept to completion. From the budding filmmaker to the pro, we are always working to move the film industry in Hamilton a little further each year! The event is a leader in the local film community, bringing industry development and quality networking opportunities throughout the year. The Canadian Film Market, Lights Camera Hamilton, Southern Ontario Film Festival Group and Kids Can Film are all initiatives of the Hamilton Film Festival.
