14th Annual Hamilton Film Festival Opening Night

We kick off this year's festival with a night of comedy! Hosted by HFF director Nathan Fleet (Air Knob) and featuring some short comedy films, a short set by local comedian Branda Lennie and a full set from headliner Darrin Rose (Mr. D, The Match Game)!

Darrin Rose is one of Canada’s most popular comedians, and an award-winning writer and actor. He plays Bill on the hit CBC sitcom Mr. D, now in its eighth season. He was the host of Match Gameon the Comedy Network and is an eight-time performer at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. He has appeared twice on The Late Late Showon CBS, on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and on Kevin Hart’sLOL Network. He was called “hilarious!”by TV Guide. He is currently a writer on the CBS sitcom Happy Togetherstarring Damon Wayans Jr.
He was called “one of the hottest comedians in Canada” by GQ magazine. Darrin won a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Live Performance in 2014, and has been nominated another eight times including Best Stand-Up Comic in the country in 2011 and 2016. His half hour stand-up special was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance in a Comedy Series. In 2016, he was nominated for a second Canadian Screen Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role on Mr. D. He has appeared in the movies Sorry For Your Loss  and Disney’s The Swap.
Darrin tours internationally as a stand-up comedian and has played the MGM Grand in Las Vegas; Hong Kong, Singapore, Ireland, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. He tours across the United States and Canada.

Brenda Lennie has been a comic for over 20 years. Her career has taken her from CBC Radio’s “So You Think You’re Funny”, to tv’s “Comedy at Club 54” and “She’s So Funny”. She is a graduate of Second City, and the founder of Wam Bam Comedy Jam. Her style is irreverent, hilarious and positive. Her act covers everything from; innocent sexual firsts to her own mental health journey. Brenda Lennie personifies  the term “acting out”.

Nathan Fleet, the director of the Hamilton Film Festival, usually puts his funny on-screen, as seen in the the award-winning short comedy "Air Knob". Fleet will bring his usual happy self to the stage to welcome the crowd, and host an unforgettable night of comedy!
