Hamilton Bengals Lacrosse Club
We are the Hamilton Bengals.
Here in Hamilton, there’s nothing quite like Hamilton Bengals Junior B Lacrosse. It’s 60 minutes of incredible athleticism, torrid pace and ferocious aggressiveness. Every game is a battle unlike almost any in sports. For the fans, it’s endless intensity – on the floor and in the seats. Whether we’re in a mid-season matchup against a storied-Lacrosse town like Owen Sound or Elora, or in a hard-fought playoff battle against a regional powerhouse like Six Nations or St. Catharines, there’s never a shortage of energy and emotion.
Our home arena
Bengals home games are played at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena – centrally located on the Hamilton mountain just off of Upper James on Hester Street. This classic arena, built in 1966, has a deep history in Hamilton as a Hockey and Lacrosse venue. Its steep seating and classic bowl layout puts fans right on top of the action – providing great views of the game and an exciting atmosphere.
Junior Lacrosse has a long and varied history in Hamilton. Dating back to 1976, there have been a few incarnations of the Hamilton Bengals in Junior C, Junior B, and Junior A lacrosse, under both private ownership as well as the Hamilton Lacrosse Association.
The H.L.A acquired the current Junior B Club in 2015 from private ownership – a great community-based arrangement that ensures our team’s success directly supports the young Lacrosse players of our city’s minor system.
Prior to this acquisition, the HLA successfully operated a Junior C team for 4 years. That team was subsequently transferred to Brantford and the 2 teams share a close relationship as affiliated clubs. The Bengals have also been affiliated with the Burlington Chiefs Junior A franchise; providing our local young athletes with a strong group of teams and the opportunity to play at all levels.
Our Recent History
On the floor in the 3 years the club has been under H.L.A. auspices, the team has made strides moving forward. After gaining some respect within the OJBLL in 2015, the team pushed hard for a playoff spot in 2016 and fell just short. 2017 saw the team finish 5th in the western conference and defeated South West division rivals, Elora, in a hard fought 5 game series. The Bengals subsequently lost in the 2nd round to the 19-1 Six Nations squad. The playoffs provided some great, hard fought, clean lacrosse.
Our Future Outlook
This foundation bodes well for the future. The strength of our affiliate Junior C Brantford Warriors, our HLA Intermediate, Midget and Bantam teams ensure that there is an impressive flow of talent moving up to our Hamilton Bengals Junior B club.
Off the floor we have strong leadership and support from the Hamilton Lacrosse Association. We are committed to engaging our community and promoting the great entertainment value offered by our sport.
Our team is always looking to enhance our growth and expertise in a number of areas. We are looking to increase our game day volunteers – enabling us to enhance our game day experience. Other positions with our team may be available as well.
As a community-based team, we’re also looking to add local sponsorships. There are a variety of opportunities for sponsors to support the team, both financially and as in-kind donations. And, the Bengals offer sponsors a number of avenues for sponsors to gain exposure and engagement within our community.
